Michael Speaks, Ph.D., is Dean of the College of Design and Professor of Architecture at the University of Kentucky. Former Director of the Graduate Program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles, Speaks has also taught in the graphic design department at the Yale School of Art, and in the architecture schools at Harvard University, Columbia University, The University of Michigan, UCLA, Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, and the Berlage Institute and TU Delft, in the Netherlands. 

26.4. Klaus Bollinger

Klaus Bollinger is Professor for Structural Engineering at the School of Architecture/University of Applied Arts at Vienna, and since 2000 guest professor at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. In 1983 Klaus Bollinger and Manfred Grohmann established the practice Bollinger + Grohmann, now located in Frankfurt am Main, Vienna, Paris, Oslo and Melbourne with around 100 employees. Their scope of work includes building structures, facade design and building performance for commercial, retail and exhibition facilities as well as classic civil engineering structures such as bridges, roofs and towers. Among others, their portfolio includes projects such as the EPFL Rolex-Learning Center/Lausanne (SANAA Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa), the MARTa Museum for Furniture, Culture and Art (Frank Gehry & Associates Inc.), Kunsthaus Graz (Spacelab UK Peter Cook) and the BMW Event and Vehicle Delivery Center (Coop Himmelb(l)au). http://www.bollinger-grohmann.de

Presentation: ‘Under Pressure’

David Erdman received his Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University in 1993 and his Master of Architecture from Columbia University in 1998. He taught at UCLA’s Department of Architecture and Urban Design from 1999-2008. He has been a Visiting Professor at Rice University, UC Berkeley and The University of Michigan. David has been an Assistant Professor of Design at The University of Hong Kong Department of Architecture since 2010 and was recently appointed the Director of Public Programs. The American Academy in Rome awarded David with the prestigious Rome Prize in 2008/2009. David co-founded servo where he designed projects from 1999-2006 and received an AIGA award for the Nike showroom in 2005, the Design Vanguard Award in 2003 and the Young Architects Award in 2001.
