Talk 1. NASA: The role of small satellites in space exploration and technological advancement

Description: Today’s small satellites will play an important part of future NASA exploration because of their potential to reduce the size and cost of complex space missions. In recent years, considerable advancements in miniaturized instruments and technology have increased the use of small satellites for operational applications, science experiments, larger missions, technology demonstrations, and engagement of educational organizations.

This talk will outline how NASA utilizes small satellites to advance technology capabilities for application to upcoming human spaceflight activities in areas such as avionics, communications, operations and space biology.

Talk 2. ESA-NASA WebWorldWind - Easy Access and Visualisation of Satellite Data

Europe produces a massive amount of open satellite data that offers an incredible opportunity for enhancing existing services and building new ones. A growing number of specialised data providers combine satellite data from multiple sources and with additional streams of information in order to provide higher-level information, which is more suitable for end-user services and much simpler to use for their developer.

WebWorldWind offers a rich collection of features that can be leveraged by all parties involved in this value chain from the quick visualisation of raw data for discovery to refined views in end-user applications. The relevant open standards implemented by WebWorldWind will be presented and the power of their combined use exemplified.
