The admission results for Master’s level programmes released

27.05.2011 The admission results for Master’s level programmes at the School of Art and Design have been released. A total of 198 new students were accepted.

27.05.2011 At the graduation ceremony of the Aalto University School of Art and Design, students were honoured for outstanding achievements and student association Tokyo ry announced Teacher of the Year.

Professor appointments at the School of Art and Design

27.05.2011 Sampsa Hyysalo is the first tenure track professor of the Aalto University School of Art and Design. Alastair Fuad-Luke and Eero Miettinen have been appointed Professors of Practice. All the professorships belong to the Department of Design.

16.06.2011 Aalto University has established an Aalto AiR residence for international artists and experts. Artists invited to the residence are responsible for the development of artistic activity at Aalto University.

Aalto University main campus to be located in Otaniemi

17.06.2011 The Aalto University Board has decided that the main campus of Aalto University will be located in Otaniemi, Espoo. Upon a decision made by the Board as well Aalto University School of Art and Design and the Department of Architecture will form a new school from the beginning of 2012.

The New School at Aalto University brings together art and architecture

20.06.2011 Aalto University School of Art and Design and the Department of Architecture at the School of Engineering will form a new School on 1 January 2012.

Joi Ito visits Aalto University School of Art and Design’s Media Lab

16.09.2011 The newly appointed director of the world-renowned MIT Media Lab, Joi Ito, paid a flying visit to Aalto University School of Art and Design's Media Lab on Wednesday 14th September. Joi Ito has been a leading light in the movement for openness and de-restrictions in intellectual property. He was recently listed by Businessweek as ‘one of the 25 most influential people on the web’. Amongst his many ongoing responsibilities he is chairman of the Creative Commons organization.

A new campus garden planned for the Otaniemi campus area

19.10.2011 Aalto University Degree Programmes in Environmental Art and Landscape Architecture launch a student challenge with the aim of designing a campus garden for the area between Otakaari and the Rakentajanaukio square in the Otaniemi campus.

Aalto University Magazine – an innovative university publication

31.10.2011 Aalto University will begin publishing Aalto University Magazine, a new magazine for the university’s interest groups. The first issue will come out at the turn of October and November and cover risks and entrepreneurship.

The new school to be called Aalto University School of Arts and Creativity: A name that reflects the common denominators

08.11.2011 The new school formed by the current Aalto University School of Art and Design and the Department of Architecture at the School of Engineering will begin to operate on the 1st of January 2012.

Aalto University listened to the voice of the community – the English and Swedish names of the new school were reviewed

28.11.2011 The current Aalto University School of Art and Design and the Department of Architecture at the Aalto University School of Engineering will combine forces and begin to operate as a new entity within the university on the 1 January 2012.
